The estate, built in 1380 as a harvesting yard for the Aggsbach Charterhouse, forms the nostalgic setting for Karl Stierschneider's high-quality winery. Grapes from south-facing terraced vineyards with such illustrious vineyard names as Achleiten, Steinriegl, Hinterkirchen and Klaus are processed. The main focus of the range is Grüne Veltliner and Riesling, as well as Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon blanc and a red wine called "Decimo", which is unusual for the Wachau. In the restored and well-equipped winery, the highest level of quality is achieved through traditional knowledge and state-of-the-art technology. Continuous success at tastings at home and abroad has helped the winery to rise to the top of Austria's top wine estates. The philosophy of winemaker Karl Stierschneider: "Making wine is the highest form of magic; it wrests a wonderful piece of liquid lingering from the natural forces of earth, water and sun with the help of the human spirit."
