The market town of Persenbeug-Gottsdorf in the district of Melk lies on the left bank of the Danube - at the entrance to the legendary Nibelungengau. In addition to Persenbeug and Gottsdorf, the municipality also includes the villages of Hagsdorf, Loja and Metzling.

Impressive sights and unspoiled nature invite those seeking peace and quiet and families with children alike - for great excursions and relaxing short breaks by the river. The local gastronomy will spoil you with regional and national delicacies - and for the grown-ups also with some good wines from the nearby Wachau.

The best excursion tips for Persenbeug-Gottsdorf

The market is dominated by the picturesque Persenbeug Castle - the birthplace of the last Emperor Charles I and the town's current landmark. Historic town houses with beautiful facades characterize the townscape. The town hall with its local history museum and the two parish churches are also well worth a visit. The Ybbs-Persenbeug visitor power station is also well worth a visit.

Cycling along the water & swimming in the pond

There are numerous cycle tours along the Danube: circular tours such as the Kaiser route or Sulzberg route are just as popular as the Danube cycle path or selective mountain bike courses. There are also numerous routes for hiking, running, Nordic walking and horse riding. In summer, we recommend an extended visit to the idyllic bathing pond complex - complete with beach volleyball court, wonderful sunbathing lawn and buffet.
