The market town of Persenbeug-Gottsdorf in the district of Melk lies on the left bank of the Danube - at the entrance to the legendary Nibelungengau. In addition to Persenbeug and Gottsdorf, the municipality also includes the villages of Hagsdorf, Loja and Metzling.

The market is dominated by the picturesque Persenbeug Castle - the birthplace of the last Emperor Charles I and the town's current landmark.
