The route starts in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg at the train station or in the spa park. A detour to the Carnuntinum Museum right next to the spa park is worthwhile. The largest Roman museum in Austria presents in its newly opened 2022 exhibition "Carnuntum - Metropolis on the Danube Limes" the history of the city and its life. We follow the continuous signage to the edge of the town and reach the circular trail through a short forest section.
Following the left fork, we cross a meadow directly to the summit of Hundsheimer Berg. The fantastic view invites you to linger.
After the break, there is the option to shorten the circular route and walk downhill through the Hundsheimer Gorge. The longer route from the summit towards Hundsheim offers information on a nature trail about the fauna and flora along the path. Before the Güntherhöhle cave, an information board commemorates the discovery site of a woolly rhinoceros, known in scientific history as the Hundsheimer Rhino. The specimen can be admired in the Natural History Museum in Vienna.
The path continues through the Neue Siedlung settlement and back to the starting point.
