A river landscape on the Danube that is unique in Central Europe has been protected by the Donau-Auen National Park since 1996. This pristine landscape is a protected area and refuge for rare species.
As an excursion destination, Orth Castle on the Danube combines nature, history and culture in one location. Several exciting exhibitions and a museum, the castle island adventure area and a wide range of events and guided tours offer a variety of opportunities for a visit.
The new national park exhibition on the first floor of the castle will present the nature and history of the national park and its region under the motto "free and wild" from the end of April 2026. The location on the Danube and the special ecological features of the protected river landscape are highlighted, as are the latest projects and research findings.
On the 2nd floor, museumORTH portrays the everyday history of the Danube community of Orth and life on and with the great river over the course of time. The observation tower, the national park lounge and the tournament courtyard provide further interesting information.
The flora and fauna of the national park region, from pond turtles and snakes to pond roses and black poplars, can be explored on the castle island, with a walk-in underwater station as the centerpiece and many play areas for children.
The store sells a selection of souvenirs and the information team is happy to advise guests on all matters relating to the castle and meadows.
