Prugg Castle has a long and eventful history. Originally built in the 12th century, it has been owned by the Counts of Harrach since 1564. It has been rebuilt several times over the centuries: In the 18th century, it was given a baroque extension based on designs by Lukas von Hildebrandt, and in the 19th century it was redesigned in a neo-Gothic Tudor style. The oldest part of the castle is the Roman or pagan tower, which dates back to the Romanesque period.

A famous feature of the castle is the Harrach Park, an 18th century English landscape garden known for its rare trees. The park covers 54 hectares and is largely open to the public.

In addition to its historical significance, the extensive estate is now used as a venue for major events.

Visits to the castle are only possible from the outside.
