Großweikersdorf is a traditional market town in the district of Tulln in Lower Austria, which impresses with its historical significance, cultural diversity and scenic beauty.

The municipality is located in the southern Weinviertel at the exit of the Schmidatal into the Tullnerfeld, about 10 km north of the Danube. With an area of around 43 km² and an altitude of 211 m, Großweikersdorf comprises seven cadastral communities: Ameistal, Baumgarten am Wagram, Großweikersdorf, Großwiesendorf, Kleinwiesendorf, Ruppersthal and Tiefenthal. The region is characterized by agricultural use, with around 70% of the area being used for agriculture, 9% for vineyards and 9% for woodland.

Großweikersdorf was granted market rights by Emperor Ferdinand II on February 3, 1636 and was awarded the coat of arms that is still valid today. However, Emperor Ferdinand I is said to have established the first market as early as 1550.

The baroque parish church of St. Georg, built in 1733 according to plans by Johann E. Fischer von Erlach, is an architectural highlight. The adjoining vicarage was built in 1727 and houses a baroque dovecote with an onion dome.

The composer Ignaz Joseph Pleyel (1757-1831) was born in Ruppersthal. His birthplace now serves as the Pleyel Museum and cultural center.

The municipality lies on the foothills of the Wagram and is known for its excellent wines, which thrive in the surrounding vineyards. Visitors can experience the wine culture on marked hiking and cycling trails and taste the wines directly from the winegrowers. The wine-growing and village museum in Wiesendorf offers historical insights into the regional wine-growing tradition.

Großweikersdorf has a train station on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which provides a direct connection to Vienna. The B4 Horner Straße runs through the village and provides access to the A22 Danube highway and the S5 Stockerau expressway.
