On the south-eastern edge of the Tulln Basin in St. Andrä Wördern is the Tempelberg Observatory on the Tempelberg, 403m above sea level.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef I, it was decided in 1906 to build the lookout on the Tempelberg. The construction took place in 1908.
A memorial stone on Hadersfelder Straße commemorates this day.
The building, which fell into serious disrepair after the Second World War, was completely renovated in 1956 and has been a popular excursion destination ever since. Not least because of the breathtaking view that can be enjoyed from the 14.3m high tower. The impressive view stretches as far as the Tullnerfeld, across the Danube and into the Alpine foothills.
Starting from Greifenstein-Altenberg train station, the viewing tower can be reached in around 1 hour on foot via the Klotzbergsteig trail. After an easy hike with a moderate incline, you reach the rewarding excursion destinations. You can enjoy the snack you have brought with you at the snack bar on site.
It is also possible to visit the Warte, with Kritzendorf train station as the starting point, as part of a vineyard hike with a final stop at the Redlingerhütte. Dreamlike moments and panoramic views make the circular trail an unforgettable time-out experience.
