The 400-year-old building (smithy until 1978), lovingly redesigned by Hundertwasser architect Peter Pelikan, combines many things under one roof: a cozy vinotheque, where the best wines and fine brandies from local winegrowers are stored for tasting, a gallery, a fully equipped historical smithy, a small summer freshness museum and an information center for visitors. But above all, the Alte Schmiede is an active venue for events all year round.
Up close and personal with wine
Wine plays a central role in the Alte Schmiede. No wonder, as the market town of Schönberg am Kamp is one of the largest wine-growing areas in Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) with 420 hectares of vineyards. Of the approximately 100 wineries in Schönberg, 20 are represented in the Alte Schmiede wine shop.
At the Alte Schmiede Vinothek, you can find out about the region's range of wines, taste them at your leisure and talk shop with the winegrowers about the wines. Not only wines, but also brandies, juices and other regional delicacies can be purchased at farm-gate prices.
