The Leopold Figl Museum in Rust is an impressive testimony to the life of the former Federal Chancellor and his interaction with his environment.
It offers a deep insight into the life of Leopold Figl, who was born on October 2, 1902 in Rust in the Tullnerfeld.
After attending elementary school and grammar school in St. Pölten, he studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. At the age of 31, he became director of the Lower Austrian Farmers' Association. During Austria's incorporation into the German Reich, Figl spent more than five years in concentration camps.
After the Second World War, he became Federal Chancellor and later, as Foreign Minister, played a key role in the conclusion of the State Treaty.
On May 15, 1955, he signed this important document at Belvedere Palace in Vienna. Figl became President of the National Council and finally Governor of Lower Austria.
The museum is closed from November to the end of February and can only be visited by appointment.
The entrance fee is € 3.50 for adults, € 3.00 for senior citizens and € 1.00 for children.
