Karl Grundacker laid the foundation stone for his extraordinary show garden over 40 years ago. Today, the arboretum of the wood collector covers around 4.5 hectares and around 3,000 different species and varieties of deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs from all over the world - a "large plant world in miniature".
The entire planting is organized according to design aspects, vegetation areas and plant communities. The plant collection includes plant species from the "Red List" that are endangered or already threatened with extinction, for example the Apache pine or the Chinese magnolia. In between, African buffalo and American bison graze in fenced-off enclosures, bringing a wide variety of wildlife into the show garden.
One of the highlights of the year is the magnolia blossom in April and May, when around 140 different species and varieties gradually open their flowers. The peony and rhododendron blossom in May and June is an equally impressive spectacle.
