What is organic? Much more than just the vine grows in the cultivated landscape of the vineyard. Working with the soil, species-rich cover crops with legumes (nitrogen collectors), mechanical under-vine cultivation to optimize direct competition with the vines, plant protection using traditional and natural means, and of course the complete avoidance of chemically-synthesized pesticides and fertilizers.
Is that more effort? Yes, of course! Does it work 100%? No! But you live more closely with nature and the weather conditions and it works well. Every year teaches the winegrower something new and demands a little more humility! For me, it's just more fun and I can work in the vineyard with my children without feeling guilty!
