Magnificent forests and romantic hiking trails characterise the wine-growing community of Berg in the district of Bruck an der Leitha. Situated near the Hundsheim mountains and at the foot of the 344 metre high Königswarte, beautiful excursions for the whole family await here - in close proximity to the Slovakian border.

Mountain: history & sights
The village was first mentioned in a document back in 862. The Roman Catholic parish church of St Anne in Berg dates back to 1789 and was mentioned as a chapel a few decades earlier. The memorial stone on Preßburger Straße commemorating Arne Karlsson is touching: the humanitarian worker for a Swedish aid organisation was shot by the Soviet military in 1947. More recent local history can be read at the ‘Panzersperre’ memorial at the Preßburger Straße cycle rest area.

Hiking, far-sightedness & wine in Berg
Mindful hikers will find a particularly exciting nature reserve in the Hundsheim mountains: numerous rare plant and animal species have their home here. From the 22 metre high viewing tower of the Königswarte, visitors can enjoy the best views of the small Hungarian lowlands and the ‘Porta Hungarica’, the valley through which the Danube flows near Hainburg and Bratislava. Cosy wine taverns and inns - renowned far and wide for their exquisite wines - cater for your physical well-being.
