  • St. Stephen's parish church, Tulln

The almost 1000-year-old parish church dates back to the time of the early parish foundations under the Babenberg dynasty. The core is Romanesque, the choir is Gothic and the towers and interior are Baroque.

Next to the parish church is the late Romanesque Tulln charnel house from the middle of the 13th century, an ossuary with a double-king chapel and famous funnel portal.

The Apostles' Gate at the west portal of the church, the five-bay nave, the high choir and the high altar are well worth seeing. The beautiful side chapels impress visitors.

2 towers, 2 owners:
Visible from afar, the two towers of the church have an interesting history. The south tower belongs to the parish, but the north tower is owned by the town council: the town tower keeper used to have his lookout and his apartment here. He had the task of ringing the bells to warn the citizens when a fire had broken out in the town.
