Just under an hour's drive from Vienna, the baroque Gesamtkunstwerk Schloss Hof extends over more than 70 hectares in the eastern Marchfeld region. The former imperial country residence was one of the most magnificent palaces in the Habsburg Empire. The palace was built in 1725 for the legendary general Prince Eugene of Savoy and was extended and rebuilt under Maria Theresa to become the largest country palace complex in Austria. Today, a stately residential palace, an ornate terraced garden and a tranquil estate form an ensemble that uniquely combines princely and imperial splendor with rural idyll.

THE CASTLE
The staircase leads to the state rooms on the second floor. The tour begins in the north wing with the former residential apartment of Prince Eugene, which was remodeled for Emperor Joseph II. The rooms in the east wing, which offer a view of the magnificent garden, are dedicated in detail to the life and work of the art-loving general Prince Eugene of Savoy. Via the baroque chapel and the neoclassical banqueting hall, the path finally leads to Maria Theresa's apartments in the south wing.

Each room has fascinating features and vividly conveys the lifestyle of the 18th century.

THE BAROQUE GARDEN

Seven terraces sloping down to the March are divided into mirror images by a central, vertical visual axis. The symmetrically laid out flowerbeds, the artistically pruned avenues of trees, the numerous sculptures and large stone vases, the richly decorated fountains and a labyrinth and maze transform the garden into an idyllic place for hours of relaxation, now as then.

THE GUTSHOF
Schloss Hof's historic manor house is one of the largest manor houses in Europe. Here, baroque tradition, craftsmanship and nature combine to create a very special living experience.

You can immerse yourself in traditional craftsmanship in faithfully reconstructed show workshops such as basket weaving and schnapps distilling. Around 240 animals, from proud Lipizzaners and the rare white Baroque donkey to old Austro-Hungarian domestic animal breeds, enliven the historic stables, pastures and petting zoo.

The water adventure trail, which opened in 2025, combines history with fun and games. Discover historic water features and actively experience how water flows, is dammed and moved. Shady oases of peace under trees and awnings invite you to relax.

In addition to the water adventure trail and the petting zoo, the estate also offers other exciting adventures and exciting attractions for the whole family: a balance bike course, wooden ball track, break rooms, adventure playgrounds and two interactive adventure trails with play stations all about the history and professions of the Schloss Hof estate.
