Installation "Moon tube" by Herbert Golser on the Kalvarienberg near Schönberg am Kamp

On the initiative of the "Alte Schmiede" (Ingrid Brandstetter), a further work is being erected on the Kalvarienberg near Schönberg am Kamp in cooperation with Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Niederösterreich. While the seating sculpture by Norbert Maringer (2009) directs the hiker's gaze to the surrounding landscape and invites contemplation, the installation by Herbert Golser draws the gaze of residents from the surrounding villages upwards.

Herbert Golser erects the so-called "Moon Tube" - a corrugated steel tube made of galvanized steel with a length of 12 m and a diameter of 2.5 m on the ridge of the Kalvarienberg. The tube is sealed on both sides with safety glass.

The artist has thus created a visual link between the steeply sloping north side with its tree cover towards Stiefern and the southern slope towards Schönberg, which is characterized by vineyards. At dusk, the tube is illuminated from the inside for a few hours, allowing a moon to shine on the Calvary night after night.

The work is accessible from the south side and provides a view of the landscape opposite. Herbert Golser thus achieves a double penetration: on the one hand through the unobstructed view in both directions of the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" German), and on the other through the visibility of the sculpture from both neighboring communities.
