This "Best-of" route leads leisurely cyclists as an alternative to the classic Danube Cycle Path over 47 kilometers to the cultural and culinary highlights of the Wagram region. First, the shady Danube floodplain near Grafenwörth, then the spectacular views along the panoramic route on the edge of the Wagram. Sun-drenched wine terraces, hidden hollow roads, idyllic cellar lanes, and distinctive loess formations – here the typical landscapes of the Wagram show themselves from their most beautiful sides. Culinary highlights are provided by gourmet restaurants in Oberstockstall, Feuersbrunn, and Tulln.
Guests from Tulln can also cycle the continuously signposted Danube loop in both directions starting from Tulln and return via the Danube Cycle Path, combined with one of the other discovery routes through the Wagram, by train or taxi. The options are therefore extremely varied.
The Danube loop represents an alternative to the Danube Cycle Path through the Wagram region to Tulln and is a Best Of tour through the Wagram. At Grafenwörth, the Danube Cycle Path is left, and one cycles through the beautiful floodplain to Grafenwörth. In the flat Danube plain, cycling between meadows and fields to Grafenegg is easy without much effort. Grafenegg Castle is known beyond the region and is one of the most significant castles in the romantic historicism style in Austria. Following an avenue, we cycle via Wagram am Wagram and Feuersbrunn, one of the culinary hotspots of the region, further to Fels. Here, sporty cyclists have the opportunity to make a detour to the Felser Warte – involving a steep ascent and descent through two of the numerous cellar lanes. Those who prefer it more leisurely follow the signs towards Thürnthal. There, the route goes directly past the baroque-classical castle. Near Thürnthal, the route crosses the distinctive terrain step twice, including short climbs and descents. The further way to Kirchberg via Engelmannsbrunn is characterized by the beautiful view over the Danube plain on one side and the view of the Wagram vineyards on the slopes on the other. In Kirchberg, in front of the regional vinotheque, we have covered exactly half the distance towards Tulln. Besides the Weritas regional vinotheque, you can also visit the Alchemists Museum in Kirchberg.
In Kirchberg, there is the possibility to cycle towards Altenwörth and back to the Danube Cycle Path or continue through the Wagram region to Tulln and back to the Danube Cycle Path there. This route section from the Danube Cycle Path at Altenwörth to Kirchberg is also signposted in the opposite direction.
We leave Kirchberg towards the east, passing the Alchemists Park and along the upper part of the Wagram edge. To the right, a beautiful view over the Danube plain offers itself. After passing through Unterstockstall, we reach the cellar lane of Königsbrunn. Not far from Königsbrunn in Absberg is the next very long and beautiful cellar lane. Now follows an idyllic section along the Schmidamühlbach stream. Through Stetteldorf, we cycle in a loop, past the foot of Stetteldorf Castle with its historic courtyard garden, which directly overlooks the Danube plain from the terrain edge. Following the signs, we cross the plain on the way back to the Danube Cycle Path in Tulln. Taking a short look back, we can still see the castle towering on the Wagram edge for a long time.
At Neuaigen and Trübensee, the Danube floodplain begins again. Through the floodplain, it goes on a cycle path next to the road to the Danube bridge in Tulln, and after crossing the river, the bike route through the Wagram merges again directly into the Danube Cycle Path, which we left at Grafenwörth. Tulln offers many worthwhile excursion destinations, such as the "GARTEN TULLN," the Roman Museum, or the Danube Stage. Moreover, Tulln is the birthplace of Egon Schiele, and there is the Egon Schiele Birth House, an Egon Schiele Museum, and the Egon Schiele Theme Trail to discover.
