The young Tulu belongs to the camel family, lives in the Orient, and is an enthusiastic ancestor researcher. The puzzle rally starts at the Danube bank, where Tulu arrives by ship, and leads to the most famous monuments of Tulln, where questions can be answered with the help of a small puzzle booklet. The approximately 60 to 90-minute route is ideal for school classes, families, or children's birthday parties. The puzzle booklet is available for free at the Tulln Tourist Information (Minoritenplatz 2). All kids who solve the puzzle and answer the questions correctly can participate in a prize draw.

Tulu path: Pay attention to this trail designation. Tulu is a camel, and they are enduring and stubborn animals who always go their own way. If you’re not careful, you might lose Tulu! As an orientation aid, there is also a map in the middle of the puzzle booklet.

    Roadbook

    Hello dear puzzle friends!

Tulu is a camel and lives with his mom and dad in the Orient. They are a completely normal camel family.
And as usual in a normal family, Tulu has to constantly tidy his room. Do your parents annoy you with that too? Every weekend he has to do it, and it's sooo B O R I N G !!!
But last time, something really exciting happened! While tidying up, Tulu found a very very very very very very very old (7x very old) cap. Inside he discovered a picture of his 7x great-grandfather with the inscription “Tulln on the Danube” on the back.
Wow, that smelled like adventure, much more interesting than tidying up! Who was his 7x great-grandfather? Why did he end up in Tulln? Tulu had to find out and he took a ship to the city on the Danube. Here he is now with his cap. It suits Tulu, doesn’t it?
Can you help Tulu find out the story about his 7x great-grandfather? All you need is a pen and good eyes! Got that?

    Then let’s go!

    1st station:

Tulu is happy to have finally arrived at the place of his ancestor. He looks once again questioningly at the ship: “Who designed this ship so beautifully?” Can you help Tulu?
    • r - Tausendasse, t - Wunderwuzzi, s - Hundertwasser, u - Hanswurst

Tulu path: Follow the Danube away from the ship until you reach the Nibelungen fountain, with noble knights and waving flags, watched by a little rat...

    2nd station:

Tulu overhears an argument. The rat squeaks: “Of course it's a horse – what else could it be?” An owl screeches back: “But horses don’t have a hump!”
Tulu approaches them: “Have you ever seen others like me?” After a short pause, they answer: “No, we've never encountered anyone like you. But if you answer the following, we will help you: What was the Nibelungen book written with?
    • k - pencil, m - quill, l - ballpoint pen, n - brush

“Follow the river – there is something similar to you!” say rat and owl.

Tulu path: Follow the Danube downstream, past the water-spouting stone sculptures, to a man on a pedestal who looks thoughtful...

    3rd station:

Tulu asks the stranger for directions, who speaks in riddles: “I bring color into the world, create figures and shapes, I won’t let myself be limited! And when the muse speaks to me, I create, whether in daylight or not. What am I?
    • i - bricklayer, a - painter, e - sculptor, o - carpenter

“Correct, I am Egon Schiele. Because you solved my riddle, I'll help you. You are on the right path, keep following the river downstream.”

Tulu path: Follow the Danube until you see an old stone Roman tower rising on the right...

    4th station:

Tulu looks at the mysterious tower. “What did the Romans probably call this wonderful building?” he wonders. Can you help Tulu?
    • n - flank tower, p - archway, o - corner house, q - penalty area

Tulu path: Go left on the upper path by the Danube and then follow it until you reach the monument of Marcus Aurelius and his horse...

    5th station:

When Tulu stands before the huge horse, he wonders why the owl and rat thought he was something similar.
Tulu asks the horse for help, but it asks a question in return: “My rider, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, always asks me about the meaning of life, do you know it?
    • e - fertility and meanness, i - sincerity and public spirit, a - cheekiness and speed

“Good answer, that will please my emperor!” says the horse. “Maybe the soldier god Jupiter Dolichenus can help you. You will find him if you follow the griffins, the lion-like mythical creatures.”

Tulu path: Cross the bridge behind the statue and follow the griffin benches until the road opens left to the square in front of the Roman Museum...

    6th station:

To test your attention: “Did you count all the griffins along the path and at the square?
    • q - 6, r - 10, s - 14, t - 22

Tulu path: Find the statue of Jupiter Dolichenus next to the griffin benches in front of the Roman Museum...

    7th station:

“Good day, soldier god! I am looking for my ancestor, do you have a tip for me?” asks Tulu. Jupiter demands a favour: “Answer which bull’s head lies at my feet.
    • c or d (pictures in the puzzle booklet)

“Correct. Visit the soldiers in the Roman cavalry camp. They obey me and will help you!” says Jupiter.

Tulu path: Go back to the path of the griffin benches. Follow the reed on the right marked “Roman excavations”. Behind the Roman Museum is the cavalry camp...

    8th station:

Tulu finds the site deserted, no soldiers around. The soldier god has probably been standing there too long and missed their departure. Nevertheless, Tulu is fascinated: “What was this camp originally built from?
    • b - concrete and iron, v - fabric and wood, h - wood and earth, w - stone and rubber

Tulu path: Return to the griffin benches, follow this path straight on to the large church. Watch for cars before the zebra crossing! Behind the church on the left stands the charnel house with stairs and archway...

    9th station:

Tulu admires the charnel house, an unusual, old, 11-sided building. He wonders: “What was a charnel house actually used for?
    • u - broom cupboard, o - fortification, a - mine, e - ossuary

Tulu path: From the charnel house go left along the church and then right around the corner to the church gate...

    10th station:

A proud double eagle watches over the church gate and Tulu asks in amazement: “What strange things do you hold in your claws?
    • s - Ottoman soldier heads, t - Styrian pumpkin heads, u - Tulln Häupl heads

After the eagle answers, it adds: “I heard reports about your kind a long time ago! In front at the main square sits a relative of mine. He told me about it, ask him!”

Tulu path: Continue down Wiener Straße and follow it to the left, straight ahead until you reach a fountain where the messenger of the gods Hermes stands...

    11th station:

Hermes speaks to Tulu: “Greetings! I am the protector god of travelers and want to safely guide you to your destination. How can I help?” Tulu doesn’t answer immediately as he is distracted: “What funny things does this Hermes have on his heels?
    • e - wings, g - fins, f - sports shoes, h - high heels

Tulu turns to Hermes, who shows him the way.

Tulu path: “Go around the building block behind me to the left and then cross the Salzgasse. You will then find the plague column towering in the middle of the main square. Beware, there is a similar column over there at Rathausplatz, that one is the wrong one!”

    12th station:

At the plague column, Tulu now looks for the animal that can finally give him information about his 7x great-grandfather. Unfortunately, Tulu is very forgetful. “Which animal is on this column, whose relative sent Tulu here? Can you help Tulu?”
    • a - owl, i - double eagle, e - horse, o - rat

Tulu speaks to the animal, which answers: “Yes, I have seen something like you before! It was long ago, in the 17th century, when this column was erected, which I have watched over ever since. I saw him over there, where the shopping centre now stands. Look there, you will surely find information!”

Finally with the goal of this adventure in sight, Tulu notices that he is now thirsty from the long journey and urgently needs an oasis to refresh. At the end of the main square he spots a fountain.

Tulu path: Go straight ahead from the plague column to the district fountain opposite the “Rosenarcade” shopping centre...

    13th station:

After quenching his thirst, Tulu notices many beautiful coats of arms on the fountain. One pleases him especially because of the animal. “To which place does the section of this coat of arms belong?” (picture in the puzzle booklet)
    • a - Tulbing, c - Sitzenberg-Reidling, b - Tulln, d - Würmla

    14th station:

Now Tulu follows the last clue across from the Rosenarcade. Tulu is happy because he finally learns everything about his 7x great-grandfather, who is even a celebrity here! “Tulu” is not just a name but also the designation for a crossbreed of two animal species. The parents of his 7x great-grandfather, thus Tulu’s 8x great-grandparents, belonged to these animal species. Namely?
    • h - dromedary and Bactrian camel, i - elephant and giraffe, j - dog and cat

The last secret is now also revealed to Tulu!
His 7x great-grandfather happily spent the rest of his life in Tulln. But he was born somewhere else entirely: In the 17th century, soldiers brought him here from his distant homeland.

    This country was called...

    O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _  R _ _ _ _
(The letters to the left of all correct answers form the solution word)

Tulu can hardly believe it, he made it! The puzzle is solved – he found his 7x great-grandfather! And in his search, he met many lovable animals, fantastic mythical figures, and nice people, and learned a lot of new things.

Somewhat exhausted but overjoyed, Tulu decides to begin his journey home and can hardly wait to tell everyone at home about this great adventure!

And who knows, maybe one day Tulu will return to this beautiful city on the Danube!
