Author’s recommendation
For easy and convenient planning of the routes, the Wachau-Nibelungengau-Kremstal app is recommended. Simply download for Android or iPhone. You can obtain the hiking map Nibelungengau from Donau Niederösterreich Tourismus GmbH or the Nibelungengau municipalities.
Event highlight in Nibelungengau: Combine your hiking holiday with the summer solstice celebration "Fire Magic in Nibelungengau" in June. One experience - two possibilities: Celebrate on the banks of the Danube in one of the Nibelungengau municipalities or on board a ship. More information at www.sonnenwende.at

Tips and suggestions
Where the southern Waldviertel gently extends to the Danube, where remarkable views over the Danube valley open up, lies the market town of Artstetten-Pöbring at about 390 m above sea level on the Austrian Way of St. James. Worth seeing are the castle museum and the crypt of the heir to the throne Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Duchess of Hohenberg. The wooded area is suitable for hiking. For overnight stays, cosy rooms are available in inns and farmhouses.
Artstetten-Pöbring is accessible via the A1 West Motorway, Pöchlarn exit. Take the first exit at the roundabout at the exit, after about 1 km turn left over the Danube bridge. Keep left, the Wachau road (B3) leads to Klein-Pöchlarn, turn off in town towards Artstetten (approx. 3 km).
Coming from Grein or Krems via Wachauerstraße (B3) to Klein-Pöchlarn; in town turn towards Artstetten (approx. 3 km).
Parking
