Tasty apricots thrive on around 110 hectares in the wonderful Pannonian climate between the Danube and Lake Neusiedl. Trees of the "Ungarische Beste" variety were planted. More recently, the varieties "Goldrich" and "Bergeron", as well as the early varieties "Aurora" and "Silvercot" have also been increasingly cultivated in the form of spindle orchards.
The naturally ripened Kittsee apricots - with their exceptionally fruity aroma - taste just as good fresh as they do as compote, roast or as jam; they can be used to conjure up tasty pastries such as strudel or cakes. They can be enjoyed flambéed, as a fruit sauce, as juice, wrapped in fluffy curd cheese dough as apricot dumplings, in cocktails, punch, sparkling wine, liqueur or dairy products. Dried, they are a real energy booster!
From the start of the harvest season - usually from the beginning to the middle of July - the 2000-strong community of Kittsee is a hive of activity. Every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the two sales stands set up in the town center are available to buyers. You can find our partners on our website kittseer-marille.at
In February 1999, the "Kittseer Marille" association was founded, which also crowns the apricot queen. She represents the association in public for a period of 3 years.
