The northern Burgenland municipality of Kittsee is located in the border triangle of Austria, Hungary and Slovakia and borders directly on Lower Austria. The borders here have become increasingly blurred since the fall of the Iron Curtain, continuing the centuries-long tradition of the multi-ethnic state of Austria-Hungary, in which the most diverse peoples lived together peacefully.

The famous Lower Austrian winegrowing region of Carnuntum also extends here to a small extent across the border into Burgenland, as Kittsee and the neighboring municipality of Edelstal are also part of the well-known winegrowing region. On the clay, sand and gravel soils, mainly white grape varieties thrive on an area of around 30 hectares.

However, Kittsee is best known throughout Austria for its extensive apricot cultivation. The favorable climate and good soil conditions are responsible for the special aroma of the wonderful fruit. Around 35,000 apricot trees grow on an area of more than 100 hectares, bearing around 700,000 kilos of fruit each year in July. When the trees blossom between the end of March and mid-April, the orchards are transformed into a wonderful sea of flowers. The delicious Kittseer apricots can be purchased fresh during the harvest at sales stands and farm stores in the village or ordered directly from the producers. The "Kittseer Marille" association is also dedicated to the marketing of apricots.

Among the sights in the municipality are the "Alte Burg", one of the oldest buildings, which once served as a toll and moated castle, as well as the birthplace of the world-famous violin virtuoso and concertmaster Joseph Joachim. The main attraction of the village, however, is the romantic Kittsee Castle, which lies in the middle of a beautiful publicly accessible park with mature trees. The popular Kittsee summer festival takes place here every year.

Kittsee offers those seeking relaxation as well as those hungry for exercise beautiful walking, hiking and cycling trails along vineyards and apricot orchards, which invite you to linger with numerous interesting information boards and seating options. The cozy restaurants and wine taverns offer down-to-earth, regional cuisine and - as befits a winegrowing region - excellent wines.

All this and much more makes Kittsee a lovely community where visitors and guests feel at home. Come and see for yourself!
