Collecting, preserving and developing. These are the tasks of the non-profit organization ARCHE NOAH. Seeds, tubers and other propagation material from 5,500 different crop varieties - vegetables, fruit, pulses and cereals - are preserved here in one of the largest organically managed collections in Europe. 150 different types of potato are stored in the archive, the tree fruit collection comprises 1,000 trees, from apple, pear, plum and cherry to apricot.

Raspberry apple from Holovous, pineapple apricot or pointed apple Mirli

Behind the resounding names of the old varieties lies individual taste. After all, ARCHE NOAH is also working to preserve the diversity of flavors along with the diversity of fruit and vegetables - and to help people find a variety that they like.

Various themed beds with changing focal points

One of the show garden highlights this year is a jubilee bed, symbolizing important stages in the 30-year development of the Noah's Ark show garden. The garden was and is a place of seed production, research and experimentation - and a place for encounters, exchange and further education. In this "30 years of the show garden" themed bed , you can see various special lettuces from the early days of ARCHE NOAH alongside little-known, rare cultivated plants (sweet pea, garden melilot, bunk onion ....).

A separate bed is dedicated to the variety of tomatoes. This year, ARCHE NOAH is sifting through winter and storage tomatoes from the archive. Millet and various types of soybean will also be on display, with a special focus on their ability to cope with heat and drought.

Rarities from all over the world

In the ARCHE NOAH show garden you will find a unique diversity of varieties. Valuable old varieties, such as the sheep's nose - an old apple variety - or the giant oxheart tomatoes can be found here, as well as exotic varieties from all over the world: oca, yacon, lucky clover turnips or cactus dahlias. Seeds are also preserved here and varieties are cultivated specifically for seed production . In the fall in particular, you can admire numerous seed bearers, such as flowering parsnips, lettuces and salsify. All species and varieties are clearly labeled and additional information can be found on the many information boards. In the beautiful ambience of the baroque garden pavilion, you can browse through the garden book library or discover culinary fruit and vegetable rarities in the garden kitchen.

Garden tours

In exciting garden tours at the weekends, ARCHE NOAH experts impart interesting facts about diversity, answer questions and let you taste paracress or wild tomatoes. The guided tours are included in the admission price.

Garden kitchen

Enjoy a visit to the garden kitchen - at the Sunday brunch (dates on our website) or in the garden café! Culinary rarities are served here: Depending on the season and availability, specialties such as sliced cucumber, oat root and New Zealand spinach are on the menu and will inspire you to cook something very special yourself using produce fresh from the garden.

Events

In addition to the guided tours, seminars, workshops, concerts, tastings and much more are offered on an ongoing basis.
