Description

The route leads from Kirchberg towards the west and follows the course of the Wagram edge. Through Engelmannsbrunn it goes towards Thürnthal with its baroque-classicist castle. At Thürnthal, the route crosses the distinctive terrain step twice, connected with short ascents and descents. The further way to Fels is characterized by the beautiful view over the Danube plain, located on the left side – on the right, you can see the typical Wagram vineyards on the slopes. In Fels, sporty cyclists have the option to make a detour to the Felser Warte – connected with a steep ascent and descent through two of the numerous Felser cellar lanes. Those who prefer it more relaxed follow the signage toward Feuersbrunn and Wagram am Wagram. Following a beautiful avenue, we cycle to the well-known Schloss Grafenegg, one of the most important castle buildings in the style of romantic historicism in Austria. Along the castle wall, it continues to Grafenwörth. Here, in the flat Danube plain, cycling is easy between meadows and fields. In Grafenwörth, there is the possibility of a detour into the beautiful floodplain to the Danube. The route passes the birthplace of Kremser Schmidt in Grafenwörth and Schloss Seebarn. We pass through the small towns Sachsendorf and Kollersdorf and reach Altenwörth, which lies idyllically on a Danube side arm at the edge of the floodplain forest. Here, a detour over the side arm to the Danube and the Altenwörth Danube power plant is recommended. Well rested and refreshed, it goes back to Kirchberg.
