Run by Barbara Grünberger and built in 1926 by her great-grandfather, the Strandcafé radiates historic charm and nostalgic flair, and is known for its beautiful terrace overgrown with vines, from which there is a spectacular view of the Danube. Made to old family recipes, the home-made pastries created fresh every day are a “poem”: apricot foam pie, Waldviertel poppy cake, Donauwellentorte (lit. Danube wave cake), old-Viennese croissant. For those who don’t have a sweet tooth, there is a variety of soups and cold starters. Most products come from the region, of course.
