  • Porträt Pleyel, Ruppersthal, Tullner Donauraum

At the Ignaz Joseph Pleyel Museum, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about this major Austrian composer active in Baroque times!

The Pleyel Museum is the only memorial site in the world devoted to the life and work of Ignaz Joseph Pleyel, composer, piano maker and publisher, cathedral Kapellmeister and the man who commissioned the building of Salle Pleyel, a venerable concert hall in Paris.

Pleyel took the musical world by storm from France, where he had moved to seize career opportunities. Pleyel's birthplace and environs are now following suit with an array of guided tours, concerts and operas. The tours have become quite popular. They are accompanied by sound documents and recordings on the original Ignaz Pleyel fortepiano or on his son Camille’s square piano. In addition, there are tours of the church where Pleyel was baptized as well as coach rides with horse-drawn vehicles. Concerts are basically held each first Sunday of the month.

The Pleyel Museum as Intimate Concert Hall

Besides accommodating exhibitions, the museum space is also an intimate setting for guided musical museum tours, which have become quite poplar. It is also the venue for museum concerts featuring music by Pleyel and his contemporaries played by renowned performers on the Pleyel fortepiano and on the Pleyel square piano.
