Hiking in the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, is a balm to body and soul. The Wachau World Heritage Trail runs along the north and south banks, high above the free-flowing Danube and centuries-old stone terraces. You hike through the famous Wachau vineyards, a number of apricot orchards and tranquil wine villages with heuriger like wine taverns. Your luggage is transferred daily from one host to the next. Moreover the hosts will be providing the snacks for the way, made of regional products.

It is just a short climb off the trail and is one of the most scenic lookout points along the entire World Heritage Trail. At the monastery in Maria Langegg you can take a short rest in the monastic restaurant or visit the informative pilgrimage museum. Then follow the signs to the romantic Aggstein castle ruin before descending on shaded forest paths to Aggsbach Dorf.
