This 5-day tour with 3 hiking days hiking in the heart of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Valley of Wachau, is a true treat for the senses. High above the free-flowing Danube River and over centuries-old stone terraces in the winegrowing area of Wachau, the world heritage hiking trail leads through some of the most eminent vineyards of Austria, numerous apricot-tree gardens, dreamy wine-producing villages and typical Austrian wine taverns.
Experience a 2000-old cultural landscape; take a hike through legendary castles, travel back to the Middles Ages and the Renaissance; enjoy the pristine, sumptuous natural beauties and the captivating panoramic views of the unique river landscape – those are the highlights of the tour of Dürnstein, through Weißenkirchen and Spitz, Rossatybach and then back to Dürnstein.
The luggage will be transported from one host to the next. The hosts will be providing the meals for the way, made of regional products. On this tour, wine will be accompanying you constantly, be it on hikes through the vineyards, pauses at a heurige (wine tavern) or wine tasting at the wineries.

The first hiking day begins from Dürnstein, where one can discover the medieval village after an individual walk. The succeeding hike leads from Dürnstein over the Eselsteig to the Ruins of Dürnstein (Legends of Richard the Lionheart), to Starhembergwarte and to Fesselhütte. The trail to the our destination, Weißenkirchen, leads through the most famous vineyards of Wachau and offers a beautiful view of the Danube.

“Where the birds in the vineyard sing so delightfully”
Today the hike begins in Weißenkirchen. The route leads over Teisenhoferhof, the mountain quarter of Weißenkirchner through the famous Rieden to the natural monument of Michaelerberg, through the valley of Miesling over the Red Door to the best vineyards of Spitz – the Ried Singerriedel and to the church site in Spitz.

“Along the ancient Roman path”
The next day, a Danube ferry will bring you from Spitz to Arnsdorf to the south bank of Danube. The hike continues through Kupfertal (Römerweg), Seekopfwarte to the panoramic trail and ends in Rossatybach. The Danube ferry will bring you back to Dürnstein.
