Day 2: Krems-Dürnstein, 12.5 km, 4 h 30 min, an ascent of 550 m. You pass through the historical center of Krems, Hoher Markt with the Gothic Gozzoburg, then on via the Krems vineyards to the historical center of Stein and into a cellar-lined road with heurige wine taverns. Then you walk by the fortress ruins in Stein. You cross the expansive Loibenberg vineyards and go by the baroque Kellerschlössel before entering medieval Dürnstein with its baroque monastery.
Day 3: Dürnstein-Weissenkirchen, 16 km, 6 h, ascent of 830 m. You climb the medieval stairs known as Eselsteig up to the Dürnstein castle ruins. King Richard the Lionhearted was held captive here. You continue over rocky landscape and an oak forest to the lookout tower on Schlossberg. Then you proceed to the Fesslhütte, a forest tavern, and to Kanzel, a spectacular lookout point. After that, you take the Höhenweg trail to Schildhütten where you can enjoy refreshments at Pomassl winery. Then you walk through the famed Achleiten and Klaus vineyards on a panoramic trail to the wine town of Weissenkirchen with its fortified church and Teisenhoferhof, a Gothic fortress.
Day 4: Weissenkirchen-Spitz, 10.5 km, 3 h 30 min, ascent of 500 m. After passing through the Gothic quarter in and around the fortress, you enter the famous vineyards around Weissenkirchen. You then pass through meadows and rocky landscape on Michaelerberg (a natural landmark) and on to the Rotes Tor (Red Gate) in Spitz. Descent through vineyards to the baroque church square of Spitz. You can look forward to an afternoon wine tasting session at a winery in Spitz.
Day 5: Spitz-Aggsbach Dorf, 16.5 km, 5 h 30 min, ascent of 780 m. Start by crossing the Danube to Arnsdorf on the cable ferry. Hike in the Buchen Valley with an optional ascent to Hoher Stein. Through Dunkelsteinerwald forest to Maria Langegg Monastery (with pilgrim museum). Next you arrive at the imposing ruins of Aggstein fortress. Descent to Aggsbach Dorf with charterhouse and hammer works.
Day 6: Aggsbach Dorf-Melk, 17 km, 6 h, ascent of 600 m. Hike the Hohenwarther Höhe in Dunkelsteinerwald forest. Descend on forest and meadow trails to Schönbühel with its castle and Servite monastery. Then go via the Jonaskreuz lookout point to the historical center of Melk with its magnificent abbey.
Day 7: Tour ends with a ride on a Danube ship through the Wachau from Melk to Krems. Before that, you are welcome to take a look at the historical center of Melk and the abbey.
