Since 1908 Hotel-Restaurant »Zum Schwarzen Bären« is owned by the Pritz Family. 300 years ago, in 1609, the house was named »Whärzhaus zum Schwarzen Bären«. Even today the arched ceiling of the guestroom is a visible reminder of former times when the room was used as stalls for the horses which pulled the ships up-river. During the last 100 years, since it has been owned by the Pritz Family, this treasured country guest house at the western entrance to the World Heritage Site ‚Wachau Valley‘, has continously improved in size and quality.
By now, 50 guest rooms at 4 star level (Austrian rating), five holiday apartments and a spa at a size of 400 m² are offered for leisure travellers. For seminars, meetings or corporate events, six professionally equipped meeting rooms are available.First mentioned in records in 1670, the hotel is an integral part of the history of Emmersdorf – the charming Wachau Valley village, where it is located.
Martin Pritz reigns as the boss of the kitchen, following the footsteps of his mother who is famous for her intuitive way of cooking regional specialties. Nowadays guests come from near and far to indulge in culinary delights at the »Schwarzer Bär«. Although Martin emphasizes family tradition, he loves to make excursions into the new world of lighter, more creative cuisine, enriched by his special interest and expertise in fish and game.
