Charming Advent markets, tower music, Advent concerts and children's programs attract visitors to the loveliest spots along the Danube. In the three Danube regions Wachau-Nibelungengau-Krems Valley, Kamp Valley-Wagram-Tulln Danube Area and Römerland Carnuntum-Marchfeld, the local hotels and inns treat holidaymakers to a Advent season both peaceful and romantic.
The Wachau, a World Heritage landscape, is a perfect setting for Advent and Advent markets along with excursions and concerts. In the summertime, vineyards and orchards bloom gloriously along this stretch of the Danube Valley. When winter rolls around, nature and the locals enjoy a well-deserved break. The ruins of Aggstein Castle are perched 300 m above the south bank of the Danube on a rock outcropping falling off sharply on three sides. The views of the Danube Valley are stunning. The first-ever Krems City Advent will be held this year on two weekends in November. Visitors can look forward to art, culture and a host of culinary delights under the soaring Gothic vaults of the Dominican Church in Krems. The romantic courtyard of Schloss Dürnstein, one of the most renowned hotels in the Wachau, is the venue of a superb Advent market full of Christmas cheer. Set against a magical and unique backdrop, the Melk Advent Village once again welcomes visitors on all four weekends in Advent. Every year the Krems Kiwanis Club hosts Advent in Krems in the Dominican Church. Within the now secularized church and in the adjoining Gothic cloister, about 60 exhibitors offer the finest in Christmas handicrafts and regional delicacies. Dates in 2019: Nov 29-Dec 1
Along with being probably the loveliest Renaissance castle north of the Alps, the Schallaburg is know for its excellent annual rotating exhibitions on culture, contemporary history and archeology. But that's not all. Visitors to the Schallaburg during Advent can look forward to a unique blend of original art handicrafts, Christmas music and regional culinary delicacies. With about 130 exhibitors set up in all the courtyards and rooms of this Renaissance gem, Advent here is truly a memorable experience. Dates in 2019: Dec 13-15

Advent in Grafenegg is one of the loveliest and most traditional Christmas markets in Lower Austria. This year it once again promises unforgettable hours full of art, culture and culinary delights in the unique setting of Schloss Grafenegg.
