Description
Under the motto "Small places - big stories", selected village walks in Römerland Carnuntum and Marchfeld lead along sometimes unknown paths to historic buildings and old walls, through beautiful nature and hidden alleyways.
Surrounded by wild forests and fertile fields, the pretty village was first mentioned in documents as early as 1180 and developed magnificently. You can see this for yourself on the Eckartsau village walk and listen to exciting stories about the Donau-Auen National Park, the Marchfeld protective dam, Eckartsau Castle and the castle park.

- Route description The round starts either at the parking lot in Schlossgasse or at the main parking lot Schloss Eckartsau. From Schlossgasse, follow the path towards Eckartsau Castle. At the fork towards the castle entrance, take the first stop and listen to the first audio story "Eckartsau Castle – fate castle of the Habsburgs." However, stay on the main path, leave the castle to the right, and continue straight towards the Marchfeldschutzdamm. Upon arriving, listen to the second audio story "The Marchfeldschutzdamm – a century achievement." A direction arrow points right, and you follow the arrow along the dam for a stretch before the next direction arrow points right again and shows the way back to Eckartsau. You follow the sharply right-turning floodplain forest path and now enjoy the beauties of the Donau-Auen National Park. Please stay on the marked paths to protect nature; there is much to discover here as well! About halfway along the path, the audio story "The many facets of the Donau-Auen National Park" shares interesting facts about the nature reserve. At the end of the path, you reach the Eckartsau sports field, and a direction arrow leads right back to the Eckartsau castle park. Shortly before the first fork in the park, the audio story "Eckartsau castle park – the Crown Prince's garden" provides exciting details about the castle park. Now follow the direction arrow left towards the beech canopy. The path leads straight on towards Mühlweg. Upon arrival, follow the direction arrow and turn right into Mühlweg. Follow this until turning right towards the marketplace and the starting point. Upon reaching the bridge, the last audio story "From medieval Ekkartsovve to the Großgemeinde Eckartsau" awaits. Now it is not far; follow the path to Schlossgasse and soon reach the starting point.
