Description

The wine, trade, shopping, cultural, school and university town of Krems is enchanting due to its location: the old town, which is part of the UNESCO World Hertige site Wachau, stretches between the Danube and the vineyards of the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) domain. The Steiner Tor, Krems' landmark from 1480, is just as much a reminder of an eventful history as the many town houses from the 16th century, when Protestant merchants made Krems rich. Stroll through the Obere and Untere Landstraße, pay a visit to the early Gothic Gozzoburg, the Kunsthalle or the Caricature Museum. An absolute highlight is the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, which opened in 2019 and is located on the Kunstmeile Krems.

Soon after Krems, you will have a new companion: the Wagram region. The Wagram is characterized by intertwined vineyards that merge into rolling fields, shady hollow paths, washed out of the loess by millions of years of water. The deep loess soils offer the best conditions for finely spiced, powerful wines. This applies not only to Grüner, but also to Roter Veltliner.

In the Weritas wine shop in Kirchberg am Wagram , 50 top winegrowers are represented with over 250 wines. There is also the Alchemists' Park and the Alchemists' Museum in Kirchberg and, not far away, the Pleyel Museum and the Pleyel Cultural Center in Ruppersthal. Ignaz Joseph Pleyel, the most famous son of the Wagram, who left the romantic wine village to make a name for himself as a composer and piano maker in Paris around 1800. Cyclists can explore the Wagram region on five themed cycle routes along the discovery tours.

Finally, Tulln welcomes you. Just on the outskirts of the city, you will pass the GARTEN TULLN, Europe's unique ecological garden experience with over 70 show gardens and many other attractions. You can experience the world-famous exceptional artist at the Egon Schiele Museum, the Egon Schiele Birthplace and the Egon Schiele Theme Trail. Tulln's Donaulände is attractively designed and in just a few minutes you can get from one attraction to the next, including the Tulln City Museum, which houses the Tulln Roman Museum, the documentation on the imperial convent and the Virtulleum.
