Silver-grey or already black? The farmland here has always been known for its special coloring. The secret behind it lies underneath: Rich graphite deposits, which were mined until 1938. Graphite was used in the iron industry as well as for the production of crucibles, tableware and furnace black.
Mühldorf also has an impressive side: Oberranna Castle with its mighty fortified church dominates the view of the upper Spitzer Graben from afar. Built before 1070, the castle is still inhabited today. Its Romanesque church and crypt are considered architectural gems.
