The inn on the church square in Spitz has been run by the Biebl family for more than 100 years and owes its name to the main character of the Austrian film classic “Hofrat Geiger”, shot here in the 1950s. Chef Ludwig Biebl relies on traditional tavern culture: typical Austrian bourgeois recipes, best and fresh ingredients from the region, such as Wachau apricots, Waldviertel poppy seed, Donauland beef, game from local hunters, and proven, down-to-earth cuisine.Wachau wines, a sophisticated beer culture, and home-made pastries such as Wachau torte, cream cheese and apple strudel round off the culinary pleasures. The conviviality of the Mariandl can be enjoyed in the restaurant, the inner courtyard, the rustically designed “spring vault” or the new roadside bistro with its view of Spitz church.
